H2 Green Steel was founded in 2020 to decarbonize hard-to-abate industries - the sectors that rely heavily on fossil fuels and are therefore the hardest to clean up. By replacing coal with green hydrogen in an electrified process, the company will cut the carbon footprint of steel making by up to 95%. As the company’s ambition grew, it needed a less descriptive name that could reflect that ambition.
With innovation, progress and market leadership at its core, it was essential that the new name captured this forward-thinking spirit. Skriptor was part of the development of the new name, and following an in-depth process and comprehensive legal reviews, Stegra was finalized. Meaning to rise / to elevate in Swedish, Stegra embodies the drive to constantly push forward and embrace new challenges. It also honors the company’s Swedish roots and where it all began - in Boden, northern Sweden, where the world’s first large-scale green steel plant is taking shape.
